Welcome. The Stockwell Laboratory is housed within the Rubenstein Ecosystem Science Laboratory at the University of Vermont. Our interests are diverse and include the impact of cyanobacteria blooms on food webs, winter aquatic ecology, the role of diel vertical migration in aquatic systems, and impacts of disturbance events on lakes. Congrats to the whole team! Professor of Biological Sciences and Chemistry We are defining the mechanisms that regulate cell death in cancers and neurodegenerative diseases. We identified a new form of regulated cell death, ferroptosis, and the pathways that regulate its execution. We have found numerous degenerative diseases that involve activation of ferroptosis, and a number of cancers that are sensitized to ferroptosis. After obtaining a B.A. in Biology/B.A. in Visual Arts from Columbia University and researching in the labs of Dr. Alex Kentsis (MSKCC) and Dr. Brent Stockwell (Columbia) during her undergraduate, Celine joined this group in 2019 to study novel therapies for CDK4 amplified pediatric solid tumors. This one-year grant will support a preclinical trial to evaluate analogs of Erastin, a compound that is synthetic lethal with mutant Ras. Erastin was identified in 2001 by Dr. Brent Stockwell, now an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Columbia University.
